So I am a proud foodie fanatic, and I’ve heard that Brighton has some of the best vegan food in the UK. I want to find out which are the top 5 vegan cafes, restaurants and shops in Brighton and Hove. Here’s my task: I am looking to pay someone £150 for their time, plus £20 per venue up front to spend reviewing 1 or 2 vegan dishes from their top 5 chosen restaurants in Brighton. Here’s my list of potential contenders from my own research but please feel free to pick your 5 preferred places - you are the expert afterall! I will be using these recommendations to plan trips in Brighton for myself and the Airtasker team who visit from Australia later this year. My shortlist: - Purezza Pizza - The Pipeline - Hope and Ruin - Terre a Terre - The Longhouse Cafe - Happy Maki - The Bok Shop - The Almond Tree - Food for Friends - Glazed

Hello, I love food in general, have been vegetarian for 20+ years, teetering on the brink of full vegan and know Brighton very well, so would love an excuse to eat my way through the very best vegan fare. Brighton has an absolute abundance of places to eat, with every country represented, and culturally has a history of catering well for veggies and vegans. Perhaps you or your colleagues have a particular favourite cuisine that should definitely make the top 5? Or one to avoid even? Happy to orientate around specific tastes. Personally I’d recommend adding Foodilic to your list - doesn’t look much from the outside but offers very fresh, tasty, healthy, veg buffet charged by weight. ?Ayurvedic-inspired. All the best. Enjoy your trip!

I would be great for this task. I have been vegan for two years which is the exact amount of time I have been living in Brighton. I've tried out different local cuisines and always try new vegan options in restaurants. I run my own vegan food page on Instagram which has built up quite a lot of following in just a short amount of time which shows how passionate I am about veganism.

Hi Sam :) I would love to be considered for this! I am a friendly vegan from New Zealand and I have been living in Brighton for one year now - I love it here and I very much LOVE the vegan food scene here! I have been to the places that you mentioned on your list (I've probably been to Purezza almost 10x!) - and I also know of a few other gems that I would love to share with you :)

I am the best person for this task because I grew up near Brighton and I still live near by, I go there as often as I can because it's my favourite place! I love the food scene there and I think it is one of the best in the UK. I am also very passionate about vegan food and the environmental, moral and health benefits from this diet. I have my own Instagram account where I post my homemade vegan food and I write my own recipes in notebooks at home.

I travel up to Brighton every other day and soon I’ll be going to university there! I love vegan food as it is healthy and has good source of protein!! I prefer vegan over meat. Anything I want to catch a quick bite in my spare time Brighton is the place to go! The vibe of Brighton also attracts one to keep going because of how lively it is and just how incredible the different types of vegan food there is delish!

I am a student at the University of Brighton and have lived in Brighton for 2 years. I am vegan and food is my biggest hobby. I share my food creations on Instagram where I also give reccomendations for eating out, including some of the restaurants you have listed. The vegan food scene in Brighton is diverse and there are so many amazing places and dishes, it would be the job of dreams to test and recommend them to you and your team!

I mean lets be honest, who doesn't love food? I have been vegan for almost two years now and it has definitely fuelled my passion further. Luckily for my this passion is also my job. I recently started my own street food business and am also a chef at the longhouse cafe. I do have a few suggestions of other places that I believe are worth you considering whether you choose me or not... Beelzeburger - this is run by the same guy who started Beelzebab at the hope and ruin, some of the best vegan junk food in town. Baby Bao @The Pond - they do some amazing vegan bao's and have a vegan night on Mondays La Choza - a nice Mexican place that does vegan Wednesdays Tofu Social club - just got a residency at The Revelator. I have yet to go but the menu looks great Manju's - one of the best India Restaurants in town (all veggie and vegan and run by a lovely family) Earth & Stars - one of the best vegan fish and chips I have ever had So if you can't tell I am kinda into the vegan food scene in Brighton... Just a little. Obviously this sounds like a great opportunity to earn some cash whilst doing something I love. The fact that I also work in the industry myself means that I understand the hardships of running your own business So I would also love the opportunity to shout about some great vegan eateries. I also have a degree in journalism so should be able to knock up some tasty sounding reviews for you!

I am a connoisseur of vegan food and have the advantage of being able to compare to outlets in other towns and cities in the South East as well as abroad.

I will be great for this task because I used to cook vegan food in a vegan place and being lactose intolerant myself I very often take vegan options when I eat out.

Eating vegan food is my passion. Being paid to eat vegan food is my dream.

I am a longstanding Brightonian and self-confessed foodie, with a keenness to visit more vegan restaurants and cafes in the Brighton area. I spend a lot of time writing about the Brighton music scene and would love to add my passion for reviewing and writing about food to that list. I also think Brighton has the greatest selection of vegan restaurants and cafes in the UK and would love to share this knowledge with the rest of the world!

I love all kinds of food and grew up in this area so I know many restaurants and nice places to go. I also have a degree in English so am articulate.

I work as a hair and makeup artist primarily but also do other creative work including in theatre, teaching, circus, performing as a walkabout actor... the list goes on. Often, I am on the run between jobs and grabbing something to eat where I can. When doing so you can afford to be picky in Brighton. I like to eat healthy, sustainable, high quality foods. I was raised on vegetables grown at home and can tell the difference between a happy organic tomato grown in season in the UK and a tomato picked before ripened to be flown accross the world, and I can tell you for a fact that happy vegetables do not all look the same! Vegan eating is definitely exciting in Brighton and is certainly not just a meal without the animal lacking in flavour as vegan and vegetarian food used to be in most restaurants a decade ago. There are people here who dedicate their lives to making vegan food that is delicious. It would be an honour to go and eat at these restaurants, most of which I have eaten at before buy some of which I am yet to try! But most importantly talk to the inspirational people who started the restaurants and find out about the philosophy that started it all. There are a few list entries I would add to your list too. Hire me to find out what they are! Hope to hear back from you soon. Best of luck with finding someone if not though and I hope you have a delicious trip to Brighton! Louise Watts

Hello, I believe I am the best candidate for this task as I lived in Brighton more than 7 years and I’ve recently turned vegan so I’ve tried most of the vegan restaurants in Brighton. Please feel free to reach me if you think that I am the right candidate. Looking forward to hear back. Many Thanks, Dafnis

I have lived on Brighton my whole life, born and bred. I love vegan food and eat out all the time . My favourite choice for lunch is happy maki, I can't get over their fully loaded maki which just bursts with flavour!

I'm perfect for this task as I love vegan food and do have good knowledge from nights out as to where the good places are.

I have been a vegan for 6 years and vegetarian for most of my life. I also did a vegan/vegetarian chef apprenticeship so i have extensive knowledge of vegan and vegetarian food. I am also very passionate about the food industry and would call myself a foodie. With my knowledge of the industry and a passion for vegan food i beleive i would be a great fit for this task.

I am perfect for this task. I’m a 32 year old passionate vegan and have lived in brighton for the last 2 years having grown up nearby. I’ve been to all the restaurants listed already as I’m a keen vegan foodie, honest, descriptive and passionate. I’ve worked as a copywriter professionally and content creator so I can be as descriptive as needed. Let me know when I can help!

Hi, sounds like you've got some great offers already. My wife and I live in Brighton, LOVE vegan food, eat out several times a week and run our own catering company. Looks like you've got a great list to start from. We love Purezza but I know it gets mixed reviews now. Happy Maki is awesome, as is brunch at The Longhouse. However you're missing out our absolute favourite, Baby Bao at The Pond is all vegan on Monday nights and the food is INCREDIBLE! Mouthwatering sensations that look as good as they taste. From healthy Buddha bowls to vegan junk food or fine dining, Brighton has it all. You're gonna love your trip if you love food. Drop me a message and I'm more than happy to offer advice & recommendations for whatever you're after. If you want some background then check out @mattdickessc, @atlasburgers and @atlasplantbased on Instagram/Facebook. Take care and have a great trip. Cheers Matt

I have been a vegetarian for many years and I made the transition to veganism 2 years ago. I love food, both cooking it and eating out in Brighton. I believe it’s easy to eat tasty, healthy and unprocessed food on a plant based diet. I look forward to tasting some food for you!!

I will be great for this task because I have the skills and want to try new things. Am willing to try new things because it's good to try new things as you keep going you might not know what you eat so it's better you know what your eating by trying the food.

I'm a nutritional therapist and vegan food enthusiast

As a relatively new vegan (of 6 months) I’ve been making my way through Brighton eagerly trying new things and completely in awe of what is being cooked out on the scene. I believe I am able to tell what’s great and what’s not and happy to pass on feedback about eateries that deserve to be raved about.

Hi Sam, I’m a life-long vegetarian who trained as a plant-based chef in NYC & then moved to Brighton for work. I’ve been here over 2 years & cheffed at Terre a Terre & Food for Friends, among others. I currently do menu & recipe development for a vegan & gluten-free cafe. This year, I worked with Brighton Top 20 to live tweet their best 20 restaurant awards & I have a really strong understanding of the city’s food scene. Great starter list. Happy Maki is a must. Food for Friends has recently been sold & the team’s changed so it’d be important to check if it’s still good. The Long House Cafe is great on brunch & savouries but not desserts. Another vegan cafe gem is Youjuice. Purezza has sadly gone down hill since splitting focus to open a London branch, but there are other spots for vegan pizza, like Morelli Zorellis. There are also some great Indians, like Manjus (all vegan) and two Brighton curry stalwarts: The Curry Leaf Cafe and The Chilli Pickle, which have lush options. Mexican, Thai and Vietnamese restaurants also have great options. Plus, there’s a couple other hidden gems when it comes to brunch. Silo also has an innovative plant based menu, although quality dropped when the owner also opened in London, but I can check if it’s resolved. We have excellent spots for vegan ice-cream. I can also recommend food shops & markets, & where to get the best vegan cocktails. I look forward to hearing from you, but if not - have a scrummy Brighton trip! Olivia

I have been transitioning to veganism for some time and I am very happy and comfortable as a vegan now - apart from one thing! Eating out!!! I'm SO sick of being made to feel like some sort of attention-seeking weirdo when doing something as simple as... attempting to order a cruelty-free, environmentally-responsible meal (which, ISN'T another tagine and DOESN'T taste like the chef just took all the non-vegan ingredients out). It is well-known that the people of Brighton are "early innovators" and they are right on the ball with environmental issues and forward thinking in general. Brighton is only 20 minutes away from where I live, but worlds away, in terms of "attitude". I'm aware of a fast-growing vegan movement in Brighton, but I have not had time to explore the restaurants until now (as I have resigned from my desk job, which bound me to a desk at home for the past 19 years). I'm loving the freedom of getting out and about and re-discovering the world and people around me. I'd love to take on this task and I'd do it enthusiastically and thoroughly! I'm a real foodie and in the past, I have worked in various kitchens, including that of a restaurant with a Michelin star. Love cooking, love eating. It's a real challenge to make superb vegan food, however! I get that! I'm in my element when talking about food and I always talk to café / restaurant staff about vegan food, as it is of such importance to me - and the planet - now. Thanks for reading! Helen.

On Insta I have an account @going_herbivore that has been documenting my vegan journey honestly for the past year and a bit. I’ll try anything once and i’ll be able to write about it too! I’m local to Brighton, work in Brighton and love vegan food! I’m trustworthy, reliable and reasonably good eating! I’m well travelled, chatty and have a good work ethic. But most importantly I have excellent table manners. Hope to hear from you soon with more about the requirements of the task. Thank you for the opportunity MJ

I'm a 4 year vegan and always eager to try new dishes on the Brighton food scene. Always wanting to help expand and diversify Brighton's vegan offerings.

My girlfriend is a fully qualified journalist and Brighton-based vegan food blogger. She not only has an extensive knowledge of veganism but is also very involved in Brighton's local food scene. She would take pleasure in completing this task as it's a combined reflection of her passion and profession!

As an Italian I am very passionate about food. Cooking is part of our national identity and we define ourselves by what we eat, always keen to spread the love for good food around the world. Italian food was always truly and inherently vegan even before veganism was a thing, boasting an overwhelming number of plant based recipes and countless variations. So, despite I don't define myself as a vegan I eat and cook plant based food on a daily basis. Even if I don't cook for living, one can say that I live to cook. It's much more than a hobby for me, and I also like eating and discovering new flavours every time I can, I feel privileged for being in Brighton because there's so much to taste! I can be sometimes hard to please and I could be splitting hairs but it's just because food is such an important thing to me, we only get one life and we must treat our bodies and our souls with nothing else but good and healthy food.

Being a vegan for over a year now ive enjoyed many vegan friendly restaurants in Brighton, Hove, peachaven and abroad. Im very passionate about veganism and would love to help broaden the knowledge of the vegan food scene within Brighton.

Hi Sam, I am a vegan and a Brighton Local for many years. I have worked as a vegan chef, have a plant-based instagram and am obsessed with discovering new eats. You have some great suggestions on your list, I can help expand this and find you a seriously yummy 5! Here is one for free: The Pond Pub is a in the know local secret... The space is cosy and warm, with good vibes and great booze. Located in the Laines its a perfect evening out! Offering super cheap but insanely delicious vegan Bao Buns, sticky, gooey Miso Aubergine, loaded Sriracha Fries with crispier than **** onions... There you go, let me know if you are up for more discoveries. x

I’m vegan/vegetarian & I’ve lived in Brighton for 30 years. There are a few of my favourites on your list but I have a few extra to suggest too. I’m very thorough and keen to help with this request.

I love vegan food, I believe in susitanability and eating a good filling meal knowing that no one has been harmed in the making of it. I m kw Brighton very well and I know the restaurant scene. I’m a big foodie and even have an Instagram page dedicated to the best food in Brighton.

I've lived in Brighton for the past year and have been vegan the majority of this time. I love trying new restaurants around the town, as well as having a dedicated Instagram page for the vegan food I make myself. As a writer, I believe I'd be able to give you detailed reviews of the restaurants and foods you'd like sampling. I'd love to do the job.

I have been vegan for the past four years, and lived in Brighton for the last two and a half of those. I cook complex vegan meals all the time, so am relatively fussy when it comes to eating out in Brighton. Despite that, I eat out weekly, visiting places like Purezza, Food For Friends, PizzaFace, Happy Maki and SushiMania most frequently, but also dropping into other places. I have an excellent grasp of English - I received 90% on an English writing module I took earlier this year at university. I also proofread training courses for a large company. My review with therefore be thorough and well written.

I spend 70% of the year Vegan due to religious reasons. The other 30% of the year I enjoy a very mixed diet. I have lived in Brighton for 28 years and go out for dinner with my wife at least once a week. We always make sure we go to a new restaurant every time. I know a few good vegan places and am very willing to try some new ones. I cook when I am at home and mainly cook a north african diet bur also enjoy, modern, asian, fusion, classic and contemporary cuisine. I hope I meet your criteria for the task.

Hello, I’m a communications professional (and also happen to be vegan) working for an airline at Gatwick Airport who loves travel and eating vegan food. So I can write and eat, what more could you ask for! I go to Brighton regularly, so have already eaten a three course dinner at Terre a Terre, enjoyed a hoisin ‘duck’ sushi roll on the beach from Happy Maki and eaten a doughnut or two from Glazed. I even had my first ever vegan pizza from Purezza - so I’d absolutely love to take on this task.

I think I would be the ideal candidate for this job as I am a huge foodie, and am also a vegan and have been for almost 5 years. I also have a vegan Instagram page, and I would love to pass on information for other vegans in the area of some really amazing food.

Aa a vegan of 5 years and having a degree in journalism and moving imagine, I feel strongly that I'd be capable of giving detailed reviews of my visits. Growing up in Worthing, I have had the pleasure of experiencing Brighton's vegan food scene since I became vegetarian over 9 years ago, and I am pleased to see some of my favourite venues on your list. Living in Brighton through most of my first pregnancy gave me the opportunity to put my cravings to good use, dining at multiple vegan venues over the course of those 9 months. Now living back in Worthing raising two young children, I would love the opportunity to review these restaurants for you. I love cooking at home, but I always make sure I try the new vegan products and dishes available from local restaurants in Worthing/Brighton as they come out, I love to see how vegan food is developing and spread the word!

I often grab the train into Brighton on my days off or afterwork so the travel is never an issue. One of my favourite past times is pretty much dining out whenever possible. I've eaten tons of Vegetarian & Vegan grub, varying from pubs, little local joints to mid price restaurant dining. Huge fan of the local Bton/Hove food Festival and have visited Foodies Festival on Hove Lawns 3 years in a row!

Vegan off 23 years and have lived in Brighton for the past 10. I have seen the restaurants come and go. Worked professionally in catering also, and happy to spend the time necessary on this.

Hi! As a vegan mature student in Brighton I’ve eaten at a few of the places you mentioned, and would love to test the rest out for you. I have 8 years experience as a chef and therefore have culinary knowledge, tasting experience and so forth. I think I’d give a great angle on this task and be able to give you some insightful reviews.

I run the @brightonfoodies Instagram account, so have a good knowledge of the Brighton food scene. We have tried many of the places on your list already. And know of many others.

Longing for the simple voluptuous audacity of a beetroot humous with a kick of seasonal horseradish this winter as the autumnal flavours of infused pine nuts melt away like a memory and we are rendered back to our roots with swede parsnip and sage making congress again....At times, I just need to munch on homemade chunky chips drizzled in peanut satay, or swathe in the juices dripping onto my fingers of a portobello mushroom burger conferred with kimchi and beef tomato. Other times I crave the delicacy of fresh rice paper rolls accompanied by a sweet pomegranate noodle salad. It’s all for the taking here in Brighton! (Dedicated vegetable lover)
